Preserving Nature for Future Generations

Seed grown, potted wildflowers indigenous to New York’s Capital Region

Our mission is to increase natural habitat to support a variety of species in the urban and suburban environments of the Capital Region.

Declining habitat has been identified as the main cause of the recent declines in birds, butterflies, and bees.

Plant a Perfect Habitat for Yourself and Wildlife

Native Plants are Easy to Grow

You can ignore native plants; it is not advised to fertilize them or mulch them too closely. They have been thriving in this area far longer than people have been, so they’re adapted to the hot dry summers, occasional hard rains, harsh winters and strong winds. You do not have to worry about them.

Native Plants provide Habitat

Wildflowers are often Host plants and provide nectar for many butterflies, moths, flies, bees, beetles, and other beneficial insects. Native Plants help birds, including hummingbirds and many others, by providing superior nutrition that fledglings need to grow healthy. Wildflowers depend on insects, birds, and animals for pollination and seed dispersal in this beneficial circle of life.

Native Plants bring Wonder to your yard

You will see and hear nature that you may not have seen or heard in recent years.  You can get a sign for your yard declaring it a Habitat Garden to delight children and explain to neighbors if needed.   It is relaxing to watch bees roll in the nectar of flowers, just don’t wear too much perfume or aftershave, or have anything sweet with you, like open drinks, or fruit.  Taking that easy precaution is a small ask for a huge opportunity to observe nature.
